Pip
Sam met Pip in July 2024, when Pip was just one year old. She found her through a website called Retired Working Dogs, where farmers rehome dogs who aren’t suited to farm life. Pip’s previous owner had tried to train her to work stock, but she wasn’t interested in chasing or following cues.
Pip is a New Zealand Huntaway — a breed known for their booming bark and natural instinct to herd sheep and cattle. But instead of wanting to boss animals around, Pip prefers spending her time with people. Her farmer quickly realised she’d be happier in a different kind of home.
When Sam saw her, it was love at first sight. The two have been inseparable ever since.

Pip has turned out to be the perfect fit for Wanaka Horse Trekking — even if she’s still learning not to jump up on guests at the car or bark excitedly during a canter! She’s just full of joy and knows all the best spots on the trail now.
We’re pretty sure Pip believes everyone comes here just to see her — and honestly, we can’t blame her. She deserves every pat and cuddle she gets. You’ll spot her waiting to greet you when you arrive, tail wagging and heart wide open. Coming along on the rides is her dream job.
